Striking a Chord with CP Sound

AVSL Group was recently treated to a musical exclusive when Colin Pattenden, head of AV and lighting installers CP Sound invited us to his Surrey home.

CP Sound regularly uses AVSL Group products in its globally renowned sound and lighting installations, with numerous high-profile projects to its name. The company is exacting about sound quality and even engineers its own speaker enclosures for bespoke installs. It should come as no surprise then, that the man at its helm is something of a musical legend!

Colin Pattenden first gained success as a guitarist, playing sessions for artists such as Engelbert Humperdinck and Leapy Lee in their ‘60s heyday. It was with the bass guitar though, that Colin truly made his name as a founder member of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, with whom he recorded several albums during the 1970s.

Colin is still active in music today, playing with the Nashville Teens (famed for their ‘60s hit Tobacco Road) and Paul King; former member of In the Summertime stars, Mungo Jerry.

We learned about Colin’s illustrious career following the recent reshuffle of sales accounts at AVSL Group, which besides helping us tailor support to different kinds of businesses, has given us a great opportunity to better get to know our customers.

Account Manager Denita Wallace explains: “CP Sound is among several ‘new’ accounts that I am handling, so I gave Colin a call to learn more about him and the business. He told me about his history in the music industry, but it’s only when we looked up videos of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band playing Blinded by the Light and Mighty Quinn that the scale of his success became clear!

“Colin owns various musical products from Chord, QTX and Citronic, and was keen to try out more, so we asked whether we could film him putting them through their paces. He invited Paul along to jam and, as you can see, we had a great afternoon! We’re very grateful to them both for their time and such a warm welcome.”
